Welcome

Welcome to my Learn stretch and play live zoom and recorded sessions. 

Links on how to join the live class will be listed below as well as any props you will need. 

These classes will then be recorded and added here for you to watch anytime. 

During these sessions, we use hatha style yoga, with stretches and moves for parent and baby. These recordings are suitable for babies aged 8months to 18 months. 

I love developmental play, so you'll find lots of songs, rhymes and dances are included to a new theme each week, with the promise of lots of fun!

You'll need some basic props for each session too .

But these are all things you'll already have at home.

Included in this page are links to play ideas to do with baby at home, a bed time baby massage routine and other bonus goodies too.

Why Baby yoga?

The style of baby yoga taught is based on Hatha yoga – the union of balance of body and mind. We also incorporate dry massage, soft stretches and gentle movements making is a appropriate for babies, ensuring it’s a fun and rewarding experience for both parent and baby.

Classes can be taken from around 12 weeks, or at least when they can hold their own head up.  Younger babies can join and we can adapt some of the moves, however the minimum age would be 8 weeks.  

Because yoga is quite interactive, you will find it benefits babies when they’re a little older.

Baby yoga is an interactive routine performed with a baby.

Mums help baby into carefully developed movements that work well for baby’s tender body. The movements include gentle stretching of the limbs, practice of breathing by imitating their mothers breathing patterns.

Benfits of baby yoga 

Baby yoga has similar benefits with that of baby massage, including:

  • relief of ailments such as colic, reflux, constipation and wind

  • stimulation of the digestive system and circulatory system

  • relaxing and calming for both baby and yourself

  • improve sleep patterns

  • further develop bonding and communication

Yoga helps blockages of tension in the body. Tension can block the flow of energy and cause the body to tighten and become painful. For example, a colicky baby may have tension in the digestive system. Baby yoga can help relieve this.  Practicing baby yoga may have many benefits for babies. Here are just a few of the benefits you may see.

  •  Aids in strengthening the spine

  • Improves muscle condition

  • Imparts flexibility of the joints

  • Improves breathing and oxygen intake

  • Improves balance and co-ordination

  • Develops physical confidence, spatial and body awareness

  • Calms and relaxes both mother and baby

  • Improves relaxation and encouraging sleep for longer

Safety guidelines

If your baby has a health condition, please check with your health professional before doing the classes. 

This class is suitable for active crawlers to walkers. Safety guidelines and adaptation will be explained during the class for each move.

If your baby is unwell, it is best not to attend the class. If your baby is crying excessively and cannot be comforted, he/she may be ill. Never practice on a distressed baby, or if your baby is limp, pale, has a temperature, or any difficulties breathing. Please seek appropriate medical help.

 

Baby Bear recommends to leave 48 hours after your baby’s immunisations before doing baby yoga.

I have found writing my thoughts and feelings in a journal , a very useful tool to help process my thoughts and emotions , but also remind myself that my feelings are valid and important too.
